3. Scope of paralegal services

Licensed paralegals in Ontario may provide legal services only within the scope of practice permitted by the Law Society of Ontario, including matters in the Small Claims Court, the Ontario Court of Justice under the Provincial Offences Act, summary conviction criminal matters within the permitted scope, and proceedings before administrative tribunals such as the Landlord and Tenant Board. Where a matter falls outside that scope, we will tell you and recommend that you consult a lawyer.

Immigration services are provided under a separate licence as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant, regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. Arbitration services are provided as a Qualified Arbitrator (Q.Arb) with the ADR Institute of Ontario.

4. No paralegal-client relationship

Using this website, sending the contact form, emailing or calling us, or subscribing to the newsletter does not create a paralegal-client relationship. That relationship begins only when Get Legal Results has checked for conflicts of interest and confirmed in writing, usually by a signed retainer agreement, that it has been retained.

5. General information only, not legal advice

Everything on this website, including articles, case law summaries, court and hearing room information, resources and the newsletter, is general information about Ontario law and procedure. It is not legal advice and is not a substitute for advice about your own situation. Please do not send confidential or sensitive information through this website, by email or by any other means until we have confirmed that we are retained. Any fee, price or estimate mentioned on this website is general information only and may change without notice. The fees for your matter are those set out in your written retainer agreement.

While we try to keep this website current, no representation or warranty is made as to the accuracy, completeness or currency of anything on it, including court addresses, hearing room details, forms, deadlines and monetary limits. Always confirm details with the court or tribunal. The website is provided "as is" and "as available", and pages may be changed, suspended or removed at any time without notice.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Get Legal Results and Roger Dinner are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or other loss or damage arising from your use of, or reliance on, this website or its content, or from your inability to use it. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under the laws of Ontario, or any duty we owe to a client under a retainer.

12. Intellectual property

Unless otherwise stated, the content of this website, including text, graphics, logos and the Get Legal Results name and mark, is owned by or licensed to Get Legal Results and is protected by Canadian copyright and trademark law. You may view, download and print pages for your own personal, non-commercial use. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, modify or distribute any content for any other purpose without our written permission. Statutes, regulations and court decisions referred to on this site remain the property of their respective owners.

Paralegals in Ontario are regulated by the Law Society of Ontario, which also accepts complaints about its licensees. Complaints about immigration services may be made to the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.

17. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply in Ontario. You agree that any dispute about these terms or this website will be heard in the courts of Ontario.

We may update these terms at any time by posting a new version on this page with a new "last updated" date. Your continued use of the website after a change means that you accept the updated terms.

19. General

If any part of these terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the rest remains in full force and effect. Our failure to enforce any part of these terms is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the privacy policy, are the entire agreement between you and Get Legal Results about your use of this website. They do not replace a signed retainer agreement, which governs any legal services we provide.
